Backups are your last line of defense in case something happened to your company data. However, backups must be done daily and properly. And properly is the key issue.
Have you ever seen a corrupt table? Most likely not. Then first click the image on the left to see a badly corrupt table of live data. Then click on the second image to see a sample of a good table. See the dates and can you read this table? No one can! Imagine what if your entire receivales file is completely missing or even worse, the whole hard drive crashed? It is really bad if you ask someone whom this happened to once!

Your data is stored electronically. Data can get distorted or deleted in many ways, including badly corrupted database tables, just form tripping on a computer cable or power outage, data can get deleted by mistake or by a vicious virus. One missing transaction could mean thousands in missed a single receivable record. You may not have the proof that you sold it to anyone and you haven't got paid yet.
The problem is that even if one user in your company left DJ Wizard open, data will not be backed up or backed up incorrectly. If you wish to learn why, click here
The problem is that while working with DJ Wizard there are open connections to multiple database tables. The items you have selected on screen are awaiting response form you on what changes you want to make. To avoid data entry conflicts among simultaneous logged on users, by default, relational databases like ours puts a LOCK on such these records. Locks are a good thing for multi-user environment but they are also the ones that prevent backups after hours while tables that are still open. To avoid this situation in the past, DJW warned you many times that by the end of the day EVERYONE must be logged off from the system and thus unlock all data tables and allow the backup to work properly at night. Unfortunately, we found out that multiple users in every company almost always forget to logoff and this is the reason that bad backups will fail. We issues many warnings but they never worked thus far. That makes us really worried that if disaster strikes, you will be left with no protection!
But don't worry! We have good news that may put this issue to rest and we will be happy to help you to accomplish it. The solution is to make sure no one is logged on more than they really need. We devised a way by which ALL users will be logged off form the system if they are away and not working for some time, even if they are logged on or leave their session disconnected. DJ Wizard does not care if it is forced out. Yet, once everyone is logged off, the backup will be done properly.
We highly recommend this solution compared to relying on the chance that all users will log off every day. This will solve the backup issue for good and you will feel safer knowing that reliable backups work every night. The setup will accrue a one-time charge of $35 per user. And it is worth every penny!
Offsite backups are your last chance in case of a major disaster. If your hard drive crashes and none of your local backups work, offsite backup will be the only way you can recover your company data. Normally your customers' list and all their details are not available anywhere. The same goes for your stock and all the stock history. And so are your open (and history of) receivables? Even if you carry a duplicate of every sale and returned merchandise as hard copy, you don't want to have to reenter years of input. If you are not sure you have a perfect track of all the data that you compiled over a long time of using DJ Wizard, we can help. We will make a copy of your backups on our servers. Every year you want to know your last year performance for tax purposes. There are some reports that cannot be reproduced later in the year with the end of previous year state of payments, balances and alike. Once the end of the year arrives, it is a good time and very important to make a year's end backup of your database for accounting purposes. If you don't do it, you may not be able to properly close the year. The state of your receivables and inventory change over time and the last day of the year (or the first day of the new year) are the best time to record your data.
You should be able to do it on your own but you will not be able to verify that the backup is correct. We can help you for a small fee. While we do that backup, we can cleanup your database and make sure it is consistent across tables. The service fee is only $29. When we add data cleanup and consistency verification, your cost is $49.
Backups must be done on Dec 31 or after you finished all your data entry (if you close a few days before the end of the year) or before the first day of work in the new year. Every certificate you owned in the past is being stored on your main working drive. The number of certificates grows over time and as images they take too much space. Cert cleanup lets you maintain your certificate information without storage waste. Note: The old certificates will only be moved out off the current live folder, so you can access them at any time when needed.

Over the years you have accumulated thousands of certificates on your server. Being actual images, they take too much space on you system hard drive. In some cases we found out that certificates take a few gigabytes of space on the most limited drives, like C: drive. Trying to remove these certificates is a daunting task. You have to check for every certificate if it is sold or still alive and when it was sold and only then you can move it out of the main directory. And doing so for hundreds or thousands of certificates can take a long time, sometimes days, of tedious work. We can do the same task very fast and much more accurately, by running a service that we call Certificate Cleanup. It is something we recommend doing once every 3 years.

When your reports get too slow, it indicates that your database includes a large number of past records that you no longer need to scan every time you look for current data.
